This past week there has been so much happening on campus. First, this past weekend was Open House. There was an awesome turnout as prospective students came to visit Scranton. Tours and information sessions were held to show the students what this wonderful university has to offer. My cousin attended and was very impressed. She is looking to be Nursing student and Scranton is now one of her top choices. For those of you interested in attending who may not have been able to go this weekend, the next Open House will be held Sunday, November 6.
Last night, the club I am in, USPB Coffeehouse, hosted another singer, Jeff LeBlanc. He is also an acoustic artisit who sings song similar to John Mayer’s style. I thought the concert was absolutely great. Jeff was an awesome singer and also very funny. The concert was entertaining and super enjoyable. To promote this concert, we did something a little different than usual. Sunday night, members of the Coffeehouse committee, including myself, iced cupcakes in the DeNaples and handed them out at dinner with flyers about the concert. It was a fun way to spread information about Jeff and get people interested in coming to see the show. We had a great turnout and I think everyone really enjoyed the show. I know I sure did!
Speaking of music, I just recently found out that our Fall Concert this year is going to be Secondhand Serenade. They are an awesome band and one of my favorites so I am super excited about that. Also, as a member of the Coffeehouse Committee, I will helping out at the event and may even get a chance to meet the band. Keep your fingers crossed for me! 🙂
Have a great week everyone!
One of my favorite ways to exercise at school is going for an outdoor run. There is a perfect trail at Nay Aug Park, just off campus, that my quadmate and I enjoy during the spring months at school. However, now that Spring has come to an end these runs become less frequent. But that doesn’t mean that my exercising does. In fact, the new Fitness Center will be opening this Friday and I could not be more excited about it. The new 14,000 square-foot fitness center will contain a variety of equipment including tredmils, cross-trainers, steppers, weight training equipment, and more! I have been an athletic and fit person my whole life and Scranton has made it easy for me to continue my fitness. So, for those of you worried about the Freshman 15, stop worrying! With the addition of this new fitness center as well as the many fun classes offered here at the U, including Zumba (my personal favorite), staying in shape can be easy and fun.
On a side note, this weekend, Sunday October 23rd, Scranton will be hosting its first Fall Open House. This is a great chance for students interested in attending the U to come get a tour of campus, attend an information session, and talk to current students about life here. I remember attending Open House when I was in high school knowing right away that Scranton was the school for me. I would definately recommend anyone interested in the school to come enjoy a day on the beautiful campus of the University of Scranton!
Bye for now!
It’s that time of year when the leaves start to change colors and the temperature starts to drop. Everyone is packing away their shorts and sandals and bringing out sweatshirts and uggs. Halloween is just around the corner and costume planning is beginning. Now, I’m sure you’re all thinking “It’s Fall!” Which it is. But these things also indicate mid-semester point!! Its already been half a semester and its time for midterms to begin. It’s crazy how fast time flies when you’re having fun right?! This whole week professors are giving their classes midterm tests and students will be recieveing their midterm grades around the time they return to school next weekend after Fall Break Weekend!
Although I just mentioned the change of weather, this past weekend felt like Spring! The weather was warm and the sun was shining bright. Students could be found outdoors all over campus. I attended the Men’s Varsity Soccer game on Saturday in which they defeated Susquehanna 3-1. It was an exciting game with a great turnout because of the beautiful weather. The Women’s Soccer team played Susquenhanna on Saturday and walked away with a 1-0 victory. Go Royals!
Enjoy your Fall Break everyone!
So this past weekend was Family Weekend at the University of Scranton, one of my favorite weekends here! The event was a huge success with more then 2,300 students and family members attending the numerous events scheduled for the weekend. Events for the weekend included classes, facility tours, sports games, receptions, performances and fairs, all intended to both entertain and inform those who attended. The 2011 event was the best attended Family Weekend to date! My family and I had such a great time and I look forward to seeing them again in 2 weeks for Fall Break.
Today, the Community Outreach Office on campus hosted Pet Therapy on the Dionne Green. This is an event in which faculty, staff, and even some students bring their dogs on campus to play and interact with students and faculty. Volunteers from local animal shelters also bring dogs to participate in the event. The event is always a huge success and I feel so restored and relaxed after playing with the dogs. I think it is such a great way to “therapy” the students as they start to feel stress and pressure approaching the mid-semester point.
Besides that all my classes are going very well. The Hana Pestle concert was a success and her music was phenomenal. Check out her videos on youtube. Here is the link to my favorite song she sang at the show…Enjoy! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxoHq8G2byA
Talk to ya’ll soon!
