As always, the University of Scranton is hosting various events to give back to the community, especially around the holiday season. There are several ways for students and staff to make a contribution to these various organizations and fundraisers.
This year during finals, collection boxes are being placed around the dorms for winter apparel and non-perishable food in an attempt to help out the local community during the holidays. Any new or gently used coats, scarves, gloves, earmuffs, or boots that you are willing to donate, can be placed in these boxes at the end of the semester. Most of these donations will support the Leahy Community Health and Family Center’s Clothes Closet and Food Pantry in McGurrin Hall.
One of the junior OT’s is collecting toys all through finals week. All donations will be given to the John Theissan Foundation, an organization that gives toys to sick children in local hopsitals. A giving tree is also set up on the second floor of DeNaples. Ornaments are hanging on the tree with a boy or girl and their age. Take an ornament and buy a gift of your choice for whichever child is on your ornament. Return your item, unwrapped, to the Community Outreach Office to make a difference for a child this Christmas!
On a side note, this weekend was a great time for school spirit as both our Men and Women’s Basketball teams and Men and Women’s Swim and Dive teams rose to victory. Congratulations to all athletes on their success and keep up the great work! 🙂
Good luck with finals everyone!
