This past weekend, Scranton hosted it’s Royal Nights program and as always, it was a great success. For those of you who don’t know what this is, it’s a program in which accepted students are allowed to visit the school to spend the night and attend classes with their host. My sister, who is a senior in high school and very interested in coming to school here, stayed over with my roommate and I. Her and the other Royal Nighters were able to go to the movies Sunday night, stay over in a dorm with a University student, and attend classes on Monday. This is a great way for the visitors to get a feel of what it is like to actually be a student here at the U. I wish all the prospective students the best of luck in their college decision making!
My girl friends and I also enjoyed a wonderful day of shopping this weekend! The University has an ideal location within walking distance of the Steamtown Mall in downtown Scranton. Also located downtown is a Rite Aid, a movie theatre, and tons of great restaurants. Within 5 miles of the school is Dickson City, which is also home to tons of great restaurants, Viewmont Mall, and lots of other great stores. In my opinion, this makes Scranton an ideal school because there’s always things to do and places to go whenever you just want to get off campus and enjoy a day with friends.
Have a great week!
This weekend was very exciting for Royals fans..and Giants fans! Friday night, the Lady Royals battled the 11th ranked Juniata. Although they did not win this game, they managed to raise over $1000 for the University of Scranton’s International Service Program. Saturday the Girls defeated Susquehanna on their Senior Day. The University of Scranton Men’s basketball team clinched a Landmark Conference playoff spot with a pair of victories this past weekend. The Royals defeated Juniata on Friday and then rallied in the closing minutes to beat Susquehanna by 3 points on Saturday.
As well as the Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams victories, the Giants had a thrilling defeat over the Patriots on SuperBowl Sunday. In honor of the SuperBowl, Residence Life provided tons of food, including wings, macaroni and cheese, chilli, pulled pork, and more. Tables were set up on floors throughout our dorm buildings so students could enjoy some delicious meals while watching the excting game!
Enjoy your week! 🙂
I hope that you all had a very enjoyable winter break. I know I sure did. However, as always, it feels good to be back at school with all my friends. Although I did very much enjoy relaxing at home, I missed being at school with my friends very much. I love the start of a new semester. It means a fresh start on classes and professors. This semester, I am taking Ethics and Theology II, courses that every student at the U is required to take becuase we are a Jesuit, Catholic University. I am also taking Kinesiology and Adulthood and Aging Psychology, which are requirements for my Occupational Therpay major. All my professors seem wonderful and I am looking forward to a great semester of learning and fun!
However, there are lots of other things that come along with being back at school besides just new classes. This weekend, the Men and Women’s Basketball teams will be playing their final home games of the season against Juniata and Susquehanna. As always, Scranton is committed to giving back to the community. Therefore, for every student who comes to support the teams, 2$ will be donated to the International Service Program. So come out and show your school spirit and do your part in servicing the community! Good luck to both teams…GO ROYALS!
Once again, welcome back everyone and enjoy your semester!
