Happy first day of Spring! I hope everyone is enjoying this wonderful weather. Here are some ways that I get outside and enjoy the perfect spring sun:
1. Take a walk or jog to Nay Aug Park, which is right up the block from the University campus. There are several different trails you can take advantage of or just enjoy a nice, relaxing time in the outdoor gazebo. The park is located so close to campus and is so convenient to get to. It’s a great place to go when the weather is gorgeous and you need to take a break from some homework.
2. Do your homework outside. I know it can be a bit distracting when the weather gets nice and you think you can’t enjoy the sun because you have a ton of work to do. But you can do both. Just grab your books and take your homework outside so you can be productive while still enjoying the beautiful weather.
3. Play some frisbee, throw a football around, or start a fun game of soccer. The Dionne Green is a great place to get active and enjoy some outdoor activties when the weather is nice and you have an hour to kill before class. There are always people sitting on the patio tables outside DeNaples and fun games going on on the Commons. So, take a break from that paper and get outside with your friends.
4. Get involved in Intermural Sports. These are a great way to stay active, enjoy the outdoors and have a great time with friends. This semester I will be playing on the Girls Intermural Soccer team and a Co-Ed Softball team. It’s important to give yourself a break from school work sometimes and getting involved in Intermurals is a great way to do just that.
Hope you all enjoyed these ideas and find them helpful! Now, grab yourself a nice cold drink and get outside and enjoy the beautiful Spring weather!
I hope everyone is enjoying this BEAUTIFUL weather for their spring break! All this sunshine puts me in such a great mood! 🙂 What also puts me in a great mood is being proud to be a Royal. And this weekend, I could’t have been happier to be a Scranton student!
Friday night, the Men’s Basketball team played at Middlebury College in Vermont for the NCAA Semifinal game. Their opponent, Middlebury, was ranked 4th in the country so Scranton was defintately the underdog. However, that didn’t stop these boys from going out and playing their hardest game…and WINNING! Junior guard, Travis Farrel, buried a 3-pointer with just seconds left to lift the Royals to a 58-55 victory. This win sent the Royals to the NCAA Elite Eight for the first time since 1988. Although the boys lost Saturday to Cabrini College, they still finished an amazing season with a 23-8 record. Two members of the team, Farrell and Hawk, earned All-Regional Honors and freshman Ross Danzig was named to the National Jesuit Honor Roll. Congratulations to all the members of the team on a season that won’t soon be forgotten! Go Royals!
As if that wasn’t enough to make me proud to be a Royal. Saturday was the Scranton St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Downtown Scranton. Members of the city and school community enjoyed a beautiful day where everyone was “Proud to be Irish.” This spring break the Women’s Crew team headed to New Orleans, LA with the St. Bernard Project to help rebuild homes that have been damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Habitat for Humanity headed to Albany, GA to participate in the Collegiate Challenge. This project consists of a network of students who help to build houses in a speedy, efficient manner. Even over break, Scranton students are giving back to the community as much as they can.
As always, it feels great knowing that I am part of such a wonderful school community and can truly say that I am proud to be Scranton student!
Enjoy your break!
