Alumni author Brendan Deneen will be visiting campus Thursday, April 18th at 5:30pm in the Weinberg Memorial Library, Heritage Room.  He will read from his latest book “Alien Uncivil War”, followed by a Q & A!

ABOUT BRENDAN DENEEN

Brendan Deneen is the author of the award-winning coming-of-age novel THE NINTH CIRCLE, the horror novel THE CHRYSALIS, and MORBIUS: BLOOD TIES, an original novel set in the Spider-Man universe for Marvel/Titan. He’s also the author of the bestselling four volume NIGHT NIGHT GROOT picture book series for Marvel; the original middle grade graphic novel GREEN ARROW: STRANDED for DC Comics; the upcoming novel GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY: ANNIHILATION for Marvel/Titan; and the upcoming sci-fi romance novel TRACER for Blackstone Publishing. His other graphic novel work includes multiple volumes of FLASH GORDON, an original ISLAND OF MISFIT TOYS book, a CASPER THE FRIENDLY GHOST reboot, PHOENIX (with Jim Krueger), SOLARMAN (a reboot of a Marvel/Stan Lee series), SCATTERBRAIN, and two upcoming graphic novels, THE BONES OF THE GODS and MORTIMER THE LAZY BIRD. His short stories and essays have been published by St. Martin’s Press, Reader’s Digest Books, 13Thirty Press, and Necro Publications.

In conjunction with the opening of the Environmental Art Show please join us for an Artist Talk with Artist and AFA Gallery Director Theresa O’Connor on April 15th at 5pm in the Charles Kratz Scranton Heritage Room. This event is open to the public and light refreshments will be offered.

Theresa has been actively engaged in collaborative projects within the Scranton arts community including The Moth Project and the Saranton exhibition (spearheaded by artist Constance Denchy). She displayed her work in group exhibitions at Adezzo Cafe and at the AFA Gallery. Theresa also established an innovative art and music venue, The Vintage Theater, where she served as the Visual Art Director and Founder. This endeavor allowed her to not only showcase her own work but also provided the opportunity to curate and support the artistic endeavors of others, fostering a vibrant community of creatives.

Theresa will be discussing her work an artist and sharing her experiences with sustainable art practice and the use found objects and alternative materials.

The 2024 Environmental Art Show runs from April 15th to April 24th in the Charles Kratz Scranton Heritage Room and is open to the public during library operational hours.

Due to Easter Break the Library Services Desk will be closed from March 28-April 1. There will be no in-person art drop off. In-person drop off will resume from April 2nd-April 4th during library operational hours between 8am-9pm.
