English Professor Dr. Len Gougeon’s article “Militant Abolitionism: Douglass, Emerson, and the Rise of the Anti-Slave\u201d appears in an e-reader collection as part of a new series from the MIT Press, BATCHES. First published in the December 2012 issue of The New England Quarterly<\/i>, the article was selected by Linda Smith Rhoads as an essential contribution on the topic of Emerson and Thoreau. It has been bundled with eight other pieces to comprise Emerson and Thoreau: Dimensions of Two Intertwined Careers<\/i>. The Batch<\/i> is now available here<\/a> for pre-order in the Kindle Store. Massachusetts Institute of Technology Press, publishers of The New England Quarterly<\/em>, <\/em>conceives of its Batches project as a way to bring together recent significant publications around significant themes. Each Batch<\/i> contains 6-13 journal articles from a single publication, plus an introduction from one of the journal\u2019s editors. We in the department are not surprised that Len’s contribution has been recognized in this way, and we applaud his success in being part of this new way to conceive of and deliver contemporary literary scholarship.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
