When the University of Scranton held its 15th Annual Celebration of Student Scholars, Sophomore Alex Wasalinko presented her paper “Friar of the For-Profit Order.” In her paper, Alex looks at the historical context of the Church during Chaucer’s lifetime and Chaucer’s description of the Friar in the “General Prologue” in order to understand the Friar as a medieval businessman and not, as is commonly understood, a hypocritical representative of the ecclesiastical establishment.
