We met at Blakely Park and biked on the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail to Jermyn.<br \/>\nIt is a nicely paved trail that is primarily wooded and shaded and it offers nice views of the calmly flowing river.\u00a0 Thanks to trail signage in Jermyn, we learned that Jermyn was founded in 1874 and is known as \u201cThe Birthplace of First Aid in America\u201d because the city offered the nation\u2019s first class on first aid to coal miners.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2008.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-530 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2008-137x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2008\" width=\"137\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2008-137x300.jpg 137w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2008.jpg 434w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 137px) 100vw, 137px\" \/><\/a>After getting off the trail in Jermyn, we used a variety of roads in Mayfield and Carbondale to get to Forest City,<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2015.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-535 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2015-58x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2015\" width=\"58\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2015-58x300.jpg 58w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2015.jpg 166w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 58px) 100vw, 58px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2012.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-533 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2012-202x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_2012\" width=\"202\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2012-202x300.jpg 202w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_2012.jpg 441w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 202px) 100vw, 202px\" \/><\/a> with the last leg of our journey taking us up the relentless incline of Route 171 and past views of the Waymart wind turbines.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_1901.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-528 size-medium\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_1901-e1470544511888-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_1901\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_1901-e1470544511888-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_1901-e1470544511888-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a> We finally stopped for a \u201csecond breakfast\u201d at the Bakery, Caf\u00e9, and Eatery attached to the Citgo station where we had omelets, muffins, pancakes, eggs, homefries, toast, and a lot of chocolate milk!
