This is Michelle&#8217;s second year at the recreation area. The land was seized from the residents by eminent domain, causing much tension between them and the government. Grassroots activists halted this project, and the land was converted to a federal recreation area, retaining its original natural beauty.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-630\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0995\" width=\"2304\" height=\"3456\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995.jpg 2304w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995-200x300.jpg 200w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995-768x1152.jpg 768w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/extremephysiology\/files\/2016\/08\/IMG_0995-683x1024.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 2304px) 100vw, 2304px\" \/><\/a>Ranger Stevens asked the class to each think of one word or phrase to describe the adventure\u00a0on their way back down. (All the words are contained in the first sentence of the last paragraph.) Her own word was &#8220;sweaty.&#8221; The hike covered 4.5 miles with 1100 feet of ascent.
