GlobalProtect is the University\u2019s Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution for access to on-campus network resources when you are off campus.<\/p>\n<h4>Some of the benefits include:<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Off-Campus access to your G: and H: drives<\/li>\n<li>Allows communication between Microsoft Windows and Office to renew licenses<\/li>\n<li>Continues monthly Windows and Office updates, as well as anti-virus software updates<\/li>\n<li>Some instructional software must communicate with a server on-campus to check out a license to verify your right to use<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are logged on at the time of installation, you will receive an alert via the Quest KACE Systems Management Appliance (KBOX), similar to what is pictured below. Please exit all open applications and click <em>Finish<\/em>. GlobalProtect does not provide any network services while you are connected to the campus network, wired or wireless.<\/p>\n<p>If you are connected to any other network providing Internet access, GlobalProtect is providing network services and the status is reported as you see below.\u00a0 Note the change in the overlay and wording.<\/p>\n<p>Although it may be hidden, the icon below indicates that <strong>GlobalProtect<\/strong> is running and you have signed in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1121\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"503\" height=\"85\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp5.jpg 722w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp5-300x51.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 503px) 100vw, 503px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In this following example, you will see that the icon is grey which indicates that GlobalProtect is running and you have <strong>not<\/strong> signed in.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-1122\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp6.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"326\" height=\"102\" srcset=\"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp6.jpg 412w, https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp6-300x94.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 326px) 100vw, 326px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If the icon is spinning and looks like you see below, GlobalProtect is running and trying to connect.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1123\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/itmatters\/files\/2020\/08\/gp8.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"278\" height=\"30\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you don\u2019t sign in, you will see an alert in the lower right corner of the screen each time you log on to Windows.<\/p>\n<p>GlobalProtect may also be installed unobtrusively when you are not logged on to Windows. You cannot have it installed on your personally owned work from home computer.<\/li>\n<li>Once installed and signed in, GlobalProtect works in the background.
