People are encouraged to \u201ccelebrate by selecting a poem, carrying it with them, and sharing it with others throughout the day\u201d. I am choosing to share here a short poem by Toru Dutt, originally published in Ancient Ballads and Legends of Hindustan (C. Kegan Paul &amp; Co., 1882). It speaks to me of the spring we have been flirting with this year.<br \/><br \/><em><strong>Sonnet\u2014Baugmaree<\/strong><\/em><br \/>A sea of foliage girds our garden round,<br \/>But not a sea of dull unvaried green,<br \/>Sharp contrasts of all colours here are seen;<br \/>The light-green graceful tamarinds abound<br \/>Amid the mangoe clumps of green profound,<br \/>And palms arise, like pillars gray, between;<br \/>And o\u2019er the quiet pools the seemuls lean,<br \/>Red,\u2014red, and startling like a trumpet\u2019s sound.<br \/>But nothing can be lovelier than the ranges<br \/>Of bamboos to the eastward, when the moon<br \/>Looks through their gaps, and the white lotus changes<br \/>Into a cup of silver.
