{"id":1405,"date":"2010-01-04T10:37:16","date_gmt":"2010-01-04T14:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wmlinfospot.wordpress.com\/?p=1405"},"modified":"2016-07-20T16:11:20","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T20:11:20","slug":"technology-on-your-own-terms-spring-workshops","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/2010\/01\/04\/technology-on-your-own-terms-spring-workshops\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology on Your Own Terms Spring Workshops"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In Fall 2009, the Weinberg Memorial Library and the <a href=\"http:\/\/academic.scranton.edu\/department\/ctle\/\">Center for Teaching and Learning Excellence<\/a> (CTLE) started a new series of workshops for University faculty and staff called <a href=\"http:\/\/academic.scranton.edu\/department\/wml\/techterms.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Technology on Your Own Terms<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 Since we heard a lot of positive feedback about the Fall sessions, we&#8217;ve decided to continue the series with an additional four workshops this spring!<\/p>\n<p>Technology on Your Own Terms is all about giving faculty and staff a chance to get some hands-on experience with new technology, so all classes are held in the Weinberg Memorial Library computer lab (Room 306).\u00a0 All faculty and staff members are welcome, but seats are limited, so please register for any sessions that interest you at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/ctleregistration\" target=\"_blank\">www.scranton.edu\/ctleregistration<\/a> (look under Special Event).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1408\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2010\/01\/picturespictures.png?w=150\" alt=\"\" width=\"90\" height=\"55\" \/>Pictures, Pictures Everywhere: The Magic of Compression<\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, January 20, 12-1pm<\/p>\n<p>As digital cameras become ubiquitous, users will be confronted with the issue of image storage and management.\u00a0 This session will show you how to organize and manage the images you capture on your camera or phone, how to compress them, and how to make them email friendly. <em> <\/em><em>(Taught by <a href=\"http:\/\/academic.scranton.edu\/department\/ctle\/staff\/grigorescu.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Eugeniu Grigorescu<\/a>, CTLE)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2010\/01\/canyouseemenow2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1411 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2010\/01\/canyouseemenow2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"63\" height=\"62\" \/><\/a>Can You See Me Now?: Creating Digital Web Albums to Share with Family and Friends<\/strong><br \/>\nFriday, February 19, 12-1pm<\/p>\n<p>Participants in this workshop will use Google\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/picasa.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Picasa<\/a> Web Album to store and share digital photos on the web with family and friends. Utilizing 1 GB of free storage you will create an online album, add name tags to your photos, sort your collection by name, and then create a custom slideshow. In addition, you will learn how to create a collaborative web album that allows family and friends to contribute photos and video to your album. Want to have more control over the content you share? In this workshop, you\u2019ll learn about the latest version of Facebook&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/policy.php\" target=\"_blank\">Privacy Policy<\/a>. Librarian Donna Mazziotti will walk participants through customizing their own Facebook Privacy Settings, armed with the knowledge of what each setting means. It is assumed that participants in this workshop already have a Facebook account, and will have their login information with them when they attend.<em> <\/em><em>(Taught by <a href=\"http:\/\/libwiki.scranton.edu\/mediawiki\/index.php\/Donna_Mazziotti\" target=\"_blank\">Donna Mazziotti<\/a>, Library)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1415 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2010\/01\/wikiwikiwhat.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"81\" height=\"81\" \/>Wiki Wiki WHAT!?: What You Need to Know to Understand, Create, and Maintain Wikis<\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, April 28, 12-1pm<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wiki\" target=\"_blank\">wiki<\/a> is a webpage where all of the code and underlying framework is already in place, out of sight and out of mind. In this session, you will learn what exactly a wiki is and how to use a wiki to quickly and easily create a dynamic webpage, collaborate on projects, or just share personal content over the internet.
