The Academy of American Poets encourages poetry lovers to celebrate by selecting a poem and sharing it with others throughout the day at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, or on social media using the hashtag #PocketPoem. I like the picture this poem paints, and its sentiments about language.<\/p>\n<p>The Gift by Louise Gluck<\/p>\n<p>Lord, you may not recognize me<br \/>\nspeaking for someone else.<br \/>\nI have a son. He is<br \/>\nso little, so ignorant.<br \/>\nHe likes to stand<br \/>\nat the screen door, calling<br \/>\noggie, oggie, entering<br \/>\nlanguage, and sometimes<br \/>\na dog will stop and come up<br \/>\nthe walk, perhaps<br \/>\naccidently.
