{"id":3876,"date":"2011-08-17T12:53:04","date_gmt":"2011-08-17T16:53:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wmlinfospot.wordpress.com\/?p=3876"},"modified":"2016-07-20T16:08:40","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T20:08:40","slug":"special-collections-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/2011\/08\/17\/special-collections-in-the-news\/","title":{"rendered":"Special Collections in the News"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a title=\"Fine Books &amp; Collections\" href=\"http:\/\/store.finebooksmagazine.com\/summer-2011.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3878\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2011\/08\/fine-books-collections-summer11cover.jpg\" alt=\"The Handwriting on the Wall by Nate Pedersen\" width=\"225\" height=\"288\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Library&#8217;s <a title=\"Special Collections department\" href=\"http:\/\/matrix.scranton.edu\/academics\/wml\/spcollections\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Special Collections department<\/a> has been featured in the news twice this summer.<\/p>\n<p>One of last spring&#8217;s Schemel Forum courses, The Bible As a Book, taught by Special Collections Librarian Michael Knies, explored the physical development of the Bible from Hebrew Scroll through Victorian Family Bible.\u00a0 The course was positively reviewed in an article about upcoming <a title=\"Schemel Forum\" href=\"http:\/\/matrix.scranton.edu\/academics\/wml\/schemel\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Schemel Forum programming<\/a> in the June issue of the <em>Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>A photograph of the <a title=\"Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Collection\" href=\"http:\/\/matrix.scranton.edu\/academics\/wml\/spcollections\/z-bloser\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Collection<\/a> exhibit, images from the collection, and information about the collection were included in an article on penmanship titled &#8220;The Handwriting on the Wall&#8221; by Nate Pedersen in the summer issue of the magazine, <em>Fine Books &amp; Collections<\/em>.\u00a0 Pedersen mentions the variety of materials within collection, which includes &#8220;examples of astonishing large-form penmanship, handwriting manuals, professional journals, teaching materials for schools, and printing blocks made from original engrossings.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a title=\"Zaner-Bloser Penmanship Collection\" href=\"http:\/\/digitalservices.scranton.edu\/cdm-zanerbloser\/item_viewer.php?CISOROOT=\/zanerbloser&amp;CISOPTR=460&amp;CISOBOX=1&amp;REC=1\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/digitalservices.scranton.edu\/cgi-bin\/getimage.exe?CISOROOT=\/zanerbloser&amp;CISOPTR=460&amp;DMSCALE=6.25000&amp;DMWIDTH=600&amp;DMHEIGHT=600&amp;DMX=0&amp;DMY=0&amp;DMTEXT=&amp;REC=1&amp;DMTHUMB=1&amp;DMROTATE=0\" alt=\"\" width=\"303\" height=\"228\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Library&#8217;s Special Collections department has been featured in the news twice this summer.
