{"id":3978,"date":"2011-09-09T14:44:43","date_gmt":"2011-09-09T18:44:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wmlinfospot.wordpress.com\/?p=3978"},"modified":"2016-07-20T16:08:25","modified_gmt":"2016-07-20T20:08:25","slug":"a-fine-romance-exhibit-on-display","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/2011\/09\/09\/a-fine-romance-exhibit-on-display\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;A Fine Romance&#8221; Exhibit on Display"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3979\" src=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/library\/files\/2011\/09\/a-fine-romance-exhibit-title-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"588\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The library invites you to view the traveling exhibit \u201cA Fine Romance: Jewish Songwriters, American Songs\u201d on display in the Heritage Room until October 21<sup>st<\/sup><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u201cA Fine Romance\u201d tells the story of the many Jewish composers, such as Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, and George Gershwin, who helped create the great American songbook from 1910-1965.<\/p>\n<p>The best composers of this period combined a genius for melody, a talent for finding the perfect words, and an ability to connect with a wide audience. A large number of them were Jewish\u2014from families that had immigrated to America in the 1800s or had fled persecution in Europe. \u201cA Fine Romance\u201d tells their story.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibit was developed by Nextbook, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting Jewish literature, culture, and ideas, and the American Library Association Public Programs Office. The national tour of the exhibit has been made possible by grants from the Charles H.
