Also, sometimes we just like to play with cool new toys. For both reasons, we were delighted to receive a visit earlier this summer from local drone photography team <strong><a title=\"Access Aerial\" href=\"http:\/\/accessaerial.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Access Aerial<\/a><\/strong>, who gave us the Library&#8217;s very first drone flyover along with a demonstration of their equipment.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;ll confess &#8211; we had an in! <a href=\"http:\/\/accessaerial.com\/\">Access Aerial&#8217;<\/a>s two pilots, <strong>Lee DeAngelis<\/strong> and <strong>John Culkin<\/strong>, are also staff members in the University of Scranton&#8217;s Information Resources division. In their day jobs as Senior Systems Administrators, Lee and John help us keep the Library&#8217;s infrastructure running smoothly. Off hours, though, they&#8217;re out flying <a href=\"http:\/\/accessaerial.com\/2014\/07\/01\/owning-a-drone\/\" target=\"_blank\">unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs)<\/a> over <a href=\"http:\/\/accessaerial.com\/what-we-do\/\" target=\"_blank\">community events<\/a>, giving us a new perspective on our local landscape. Back in June, Lee used his drone to capture <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Ppqafxa1TSQ\" target=\"_blank\">aerial footage of the Scranton Cooperage fire, <\/a>demonstrating the potential value of drones in local journalism (and even getting a <a href=\"http:\/\/fortune.com\/2014\/08\/28\/faa-limiting-drone-innovation\/\" target=\"_blank\">mention in Fortune<\/a>). In July, Access Aerial photographed the <a href=\"http:\/\/accessaerial.com\/portfolio\/marywood\/\" target=\"_blank\">construction of the brand new library at nearby Marywood University<\/a> (we&#8217;ll admit that a tiny bit of librarian jealousy may have prompted us to set up our own appointment).<\/p>\n<p>At the end of August, Lee and John brought over one of their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dji.com\/product\/phantom\" target=\"_blank\">Phantom drones<\/a> for a demonstration at the Library.
