{"id":98,"date":"2013-05-11T15:11:25","date_gmt":"2013-05-11T19:11:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/novelpedagogy\/?p=98"},"modified":"2013-05-11T15:11:25","modified_gmt":"2013-05-11T19:11:25","slug":"meeting-minutes-81512","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/novelpedagogy\/2013\/05\/11\/meeting-minutes-81512\/","title":{"rendered":"Meeting minutes 8\/15\/12"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Present: Tara Fay, Katy Meier, Jessica Nolan, Jeremy Sepinsky<br \/>\nThe meeting took place at Thai Rak Thai<\/p>\n<p><strong>Agenda<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Strategic planning for the year\n<ol>\n<li>expansion model<\/li>\n<li>guest speakers<\/li>\n<li>goals for our meetings and our classrooms<\/li>\n<li>meetings schedule<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>CIQ experiment and data collection in Fay&#8217;s\/Meier&#8217;s classroom<\/li>\n<li>TED video (Stanford online classes) and NY Schools for tomorrow webcast<\/li>\n<li>CTLE candidate presentation rundown<\/li>\n<li>First day of school<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Minutes<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Strategic planning for the year\n<ol>\n<li>expansion model- the group affirmed that we had agreed at an earlier meeting that we do not want to expand our cohort, but we would like to provide a model for new cohorts to be formed with interested faculty\n<\/li>\n<li>guest speakers- Jeremy has not pursued the second speaker but can look into it if there is interest<\/li>\n<li>goals for our meetings and our classrooms- The group reflected on what we\u2019ve done in the last year:\n<ol>\n<li>met to discuss and get feedback on our courses visited each other\u2019s classrooms and\/or watched videos of each other teaching to provide informal and formal evaluations. <\/li>\n<li>shared teaching resources and recommended teaching related links<\/li>\n<li>watched and then discussed several webinars related to novel pedagogy<\/li>\n<li>brought in a guest speaker<\/li>\n<li>shared our novel pedagogies with one another<\/li>\n<li>supported one another\u2019s interest in and planning for classroom experiments with novel pedagogies<\/li>\n<li>in the future we would also like to present the results of our classroom experiments to the larger university community<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>meetings schedule- \u00a0the next meeting was tentatively scheduled for the 3rd Tuesday of September, time TBD<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<li>CIQ experiment and data collection in Fay&#8217;s\/Meier&#8217;s classroom- \u00a0Fay will be teaching three sections of Biology 110 and Meier will be teaching two sections of History 110 (Introduction to American history to 1877). \u00a0Both faculty are planning to administer the critical incident questionnaire to one of their sections and use the other section(s) as a control group. \u00a0The goal of the CIQ is to build a sense of trust and fairness among the students and to help students become engaged and self-reflective learners. Fay and Meier are using CIQ materials from the book \u201cThe Skillful Teacher\u201d by Stephen D.
