{"id":709,"date":"2010-11-17T09:08:46","date_gmt":"2010-11-17T14:08:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/"},"modified":"2010-11-17T09:08:46","modified_gmt":"2010-11-17T14:08:46","slug":"mac-support","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/faq\/mac-support\/","title":{"rendered":"Mac Support"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Many faculty <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2010\/09\/28\/2010-faculty-questionnaire-results\/\" target=\"_blank\">survey<\/a> respondents asked for <em>\u201ca more Mac friendly environment\u201d<\/em> on campus.<\/p>\n<p>IR is aware that there are more and more Mac users on  campus (both faculty and students), and they are taking steps to address  this issue. \u00a0As of Summer 2010, the University of Scranton is now an <a href=\"http:\/\/solutionprofessionals.apple.com\/aasp\/\">Authorized Apple Service Center<\/a>.\u00a0 Two IR technicians, Glen Pace and Karl Johns, have passed a software and hardware exam to become the University\u2019s first <a href=\"http:\/\/training.apple.com\/certification\/acmt\">Apple Certified Macintosh Technicians<\/a>.\u00a0  Two more technicians, Joe Kitcho and Zack Coffey, will be certified by the end of Fall 2010.<\/p>\n<p>This means that the <strong>Laptop Support Center can now service faculty  owned Macintosh computers.<\/strong> If you find that this level of support  doesn\u2019t meet your needs, please <a href=\"..\/contact-us\/\">let TAG know<\/a> specifically what you need so that we can give IR detailed feedback.<\/p>\n<p>One faculty member also commented that <em>\u201cANGEL should keep up with Firefox upgrades and should be compatible with Safari.\u201d<\/em> Unfortunately,  this is one area where the University doesn\u2019t have much control. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackboard.com\/Teaching-Learning\/Learn-Resources\/ANGEL-Edition.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">ANGEL  Learning<\/a> does not support Safari (or Chrome, for that matter); they  recommend that Windows users use Internet Explorer 7 or 8 for ANGEL and  that Mac users use Firefox 3. \u00a0This isn\u2019t ideal, of course &#8211; and there  are other learning management systems out there \u00a0(like <a href=\"http:\/\/moodle.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Moodle<\/a>, for  example) that do support Safari. \u00a0But choosing a learning management system (LMS) is a decision that  affects the entire University, and each product available has its  advantages and disadvantages. \u00a0When the University chose ANGEL as its  LMS, it wasn\u2019t because ANGEL was perfect but rather because, out of the  products available, it was the best fit for our campus.<\/p>\n<p>Back to <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2010\/11\/17\/response-to-survey-comments-top-faculty-concerns\/\" target=\"_self\">Top Faculty Concerns<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span> <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Many faculty survey respondents asked for \u201ca more Mac friendly environment\u201d on campus.
