{"id":1697,"date":"2012-02-02T19:21:44","date_gmt":"2012-02-03T00:21:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/?p=1697"},"modified":"2013-08-19T09:26:33","modified_gmt":"2013-08-19T13:26:33","slug":"choose-the-new-angel-vendor-demos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2012\/02\/02\/choose-the-new-angel-vendor-demos\/","title":{"rendered":"Choose the New Angel: Vendor Demos"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month, three Learning Management System (LMS) vendors will be coming to campus to demo their products: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.desire2learn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Desire2Learn<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.moodlerooms.com\/home\" target=\"_blank\">MoodleRooms<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackboard.com\/Platforms\/Learn\/Overview.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Blackboard<\/a>. \u00a0Thanks to the LMS Work Group, we&#8217;re all invited to sit in on the demos.<\/p>\n<p>If you use Angel, please make time to scope out these new options. \u00a0While TAG has <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2011\/12\/16\/faculty-feedback-needed\/\" target=\"_blank\">representatives<\/a> on the LMS Group, these demos are the main opportunity for the faculty at large to weigh in on what system the University switches to when our Angel contract expires (2013).<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the invitation from Connie Wisdo, who&#8217;s heading the LMS Work Group:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>In January, the LMS Evaluation Working Group reviewed 8 vendor responses received in response to the <a href=\"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2011\/12\/16\/faculty-feedback-needed\/\">Request for Information document<\/a> sent out in December. We used the review to narrow our search down to 3 vendor finalists.\u00a0 They are all scheduled to present their products to the University Community this month.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Desire2Learn will be here February 14th and 15th:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>February 14 &#8211; 2 demos: 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. and 1:30 &#8211; 3:00 p.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Auditorium (228)<\/p>\n<p>February 15 &#8211; 1 demo: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Auditorium (228)<\/p>\n<p><strong>MoodleRooms will be here February 23rd and 24th:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>February 23 &#8211; 2 demos: 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. and 1:30 &#8211; 3:00 p.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Auditorium (228)<\/p>\n<p>February 24 &#8211; 1 demo: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Auditorium (228)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Blackboard will be here February 28th and 29th:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>February 28 &#8211; 2 demos: 11:30 a.m. -1:00 p.m. and 1:30 &#8211; 3:00 p.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Board Room (500)<\/p>\n<p>February 29 &#8211; 1 demo: 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. &#8212; Location:\u00a0 Brennan Hall Board Room (500)<\/p>\n<p>Taking into consideration the results of our recent faculty LMS survey, we&#8217;ve identified the top desired features as:<\/p>\n<p>1. \u00a0Mobile connectivity \/ application \/ use<\/p>\n<p>2. \u00a0eMail or messaging (with some type of RSS or \u201cpush\u201d technology)<\/p>\n<p>3. Assessments<\/p>\n<p>-Creation (ability to incorporate different question types)<\/p>\n<p>-Import of questions, question banks or assessments from other courses (ability to upload questions from Word )<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Grading options (Easiness of grading)<\/p>\n<p>4. \u00a0Dropbox (include creation and grading)<\/p>\n<p>5. Discussion forums<\/p>\n<p>-Viewing options (flexibility)<\/p>\n<p>-Grading options<\/p>\n<p>6. \u00a0Rubrics (include creation)<\/p>\n<p>-Flexibility (ability to incorporate different question types)<\/p>\n<p>7. Gradebook<\/p>\n<p>-Intuitiveness<\/p>\n<p>-Student view (publishing grades for Student View)<\/p>\n<p>-Flexibility of grading scales<\/p>\n<p>-Export to Banner<\/p>\n<p>8. Start of Semester Procedures (SOSP)<\/p>\n<p>-Rolling over courses\/content<\/p>\n<p>-Announcement and notifications<\/p>\n<p>9. Student tracking\/reporting tools<\/p>\n<p>10. Gradebook \u2013 Easy interaction with Excel for import\/export<\/p>\n<p>11. Course Content items \u2013 Folders, pages, links, conventional files, audio\/video files<\/p>\n<p>12. Assessments \u2013 Assessment security<\/p>\n<p>13. Browser compatibility \u2013 IE, FF<\/p>\n<p>14. \u00a0Course content migration from ANGEL to new LMS<\/p>\n<p>15. Orientation\/Online help for faculty and students<\/p>\n<p>16. Course export capability<\/p>\n<p>The vendors will be directed to cover all 16 of the above, as a minimum, in their demos.\u00a0 Any additional features can be demonstrated by the vendors, as time allows and\/or based on audience questions.<\/p>\n<p>If there are students in the audience, the vendors will be asked to begin the demo with a 15-minute overview of the \u201cstudent view\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Rating sheets will be provided to all who attend the demos, so that we can obtain feedback from both faculty and students.<\/p>\n<p>Separate meetings between the vendors and our technical staff will also be conducted while the vendors are on site so that we may ask them questions and\/or see demonstrations regarding integration of their software with key enterprise applications, such as Banner and Live@edu.<\/p>\n<p>You are cordially invited to attend these demonstrations.\u00a0 Notice of the demos will also be posted on my.scranton in the near future.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This month, three Learning Management System (LMS) vendors will be coming to campus to demo their products: Desire2Learn, MoodleRooms, and Blackboard. \u00a0Thanks to the LMS Work Group, we&#8217;re all invited to sit in on the demos.
