{"id":215,"date":"2010-08-13T12:20:02","date_gmt":"2010-08-13T16:20:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/?p=215"},"modified":"2010-08-13T12:20:02","modified_gmt":"2010-08-13T16:20:02","slug":"technology-on-your-own-terms-fall-2010","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2010\/08\/13\/technology-on-your-own-terms-fall-2010\/","title":{"rendered":"Technology on Your Own Terms Fall 2010"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Faculty members interested in learning more about emerging technologies might be interested in <strong><em>Technology on Your Own Terms,<\/em><\/strong> a training series offered each semester by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/library\" target=\"_blank\">Weinberg Memorial Library<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/ctle\">Center for Teaching &amp; Learning Excellence (CTLE)<\/a>. \u00a0The series introduces University faculty and staff to emerging   technologies in a hands-on environment, in order to encourage innovation   in the workplace and in the classroom.\u00a0 The  Fall 2010 series is themed \u201cGet to Know Google\u201d and features workshops on  four different Google services.\u00a0 All faculty are welcome, but seats are limited, so please register for sessions you plan to attend at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/ctleregistration\">www.scranton.edu\/ctleregistration<\/a> (select Special Event).<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/img.thesun.co.uk\/multimedia\/archive\/00571\/google_logo_682_571408a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"120\" height=\"71\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Just Google It!<\/strong><br \/>\nTuesday, September 14 from 12pm \u2013 1pm<\/p>\n<p>One billion results in 0.27 seconds! When you need information, chances are you use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">Google<\/a>\u2122  to find it.\u00a0 In this workshop, you will learn how Google\u2019s Web search  engine works.\u00a0 You will also learn some tips to help you improve your  search experience as well as some of Google&#8217;s special features, such as <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\">Google Books<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/scholar.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">Google Scholar<\/a>. (<em>Taught by <a href=\"http:\/\/libwiki.scranton.edu\/mediawiki\/index.php\/Bonnie_Oldham\" target=\"_blank\">Bonnie Oldham<\/a>, Weinberg Memorial Library<\/em>)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/justtoological.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/04\/google-docs-logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"113\" height=\"107\" \/><\/a><strong> <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Google Docs: An Excellent Way to Create, Collaborate on, and Securely Store Documents<\/strong><br \/>\nFriday, October 1 from 12pm \u2013 1pm<\/p>\n<p>This workshop will introduce you to <a href=\"http:\/\/docs.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">Google Docs<\/a>,  a service that allows  you to create documents that parallel Microsoft  Office: \u00a0Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.\u00a0It also allows for the creation of  online surveys and  the storage of any type of document in a very  secure environment. Google Docs offers excellent collaborative  opportunities for working on any supported document type with both peers  and students, meaning that  the tool can be used for course paper  submissions, faculty feedback, collaborative student projects, club, or  research purposes. <em>(Taught by <a href=\"http:\/\/http:\/\/academic.scranton.edu\/faculty\/cannon\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Tim Cannon<\/a>, Psychology\/Neuroscience)<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<blockquote><p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.jabzweb.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/12\/google-map-logo.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"118\" height=\"88\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Get Where You\u2019re Going with Google Maps<\/strong><br \/>\nTuesday, October 12 from 12pm \u2013 1pm<\/p>\n<p>Many people know that you can use <a href=\"http:\/\/maps.google.com\" target=\"_blank\">Google Maps<\/a> to get driving directions from one place to another.
