{"id":2767,"date":"2013-03-01T11:43:21","date_gmt":"2013-03-01T16:43:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/?p=2767"},"modified":"2013-03-01T11:43:21","modified_gmt":"2013-03-01T16:43:21","slug":"updates-from-it-forum-and-it-matters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2013\/03\/01\/updates-from-it-forum-and-it-matters\/","title":{"rendered":"Updates from IT Forum and IT Matters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Just a few updates from recent Planning and Information Resources events and publications &#8211; PIR staff, let me know if I missed anything!<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">February 2013 IT Forum: PIR Tactical Plan<\/span><\/p>\n<p>At the February 14th IT Forum, CIO Jerry DeSanto and AVP Robyn Dickinson gave a presentation (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/pir\/its\/it-forums\/presentations\/IT%20Forum%2002-14-2013.pps\">slides<\/a>) on &#8220;Information Resources in Transition&#8230; Adding Value&#8230; Making a Difference&#8221; in which they discussed PIR&#8217;s progress on their <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/pir\/documents\/Final%20Plan%202010-13.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2010-2013 tactical plan<\/a> and the thinking behind the <a href=\"https:\/\/royaldrive.scranton.edu\/Groups\/Planningandinformationsystems\/PAIRO\/Planning\/Tactical%20Planning\/Plans%20By%20Division\/PIR%20Tactical%20Plan\/2012\/IR%20Tactical%202013\/Information%20Resources%20Tactical%20Plan%202013_2016.pdf?ticket=t_yAnoLvR7\" target=\"_blank\">2013-2016 tactical plan<\/a>. Robyn introduced the four parts of PIR&#8217;s vision: 1) Professional expertise, 2) Seamless technology environment, 3) Promote sound business practices, and 4) Enhance the learning experience. Points of particular interest for faculty members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>PIR will support innovation in teaching &amp; learning by expanding lecture capture use and capabilities, exploring learning management tools, refining long-term plans for classroom technologies, and working with colleges (via deans and TAG) to identify and meet faculty and student needs.<\/li>\n<li>PIR will be looking at big data and analytics in higher education &#8211; e.g., using analytics to attract students but also to measure learning.<\/li>\n<li>IT\u00a0will be addressing BYOD (bring your own device) trends as students and faculty access University services using a large variety of consumer devices\/products.<\/li>\n<li>PIR will be working on improving business practices and project management, not only in PIR itself but across the university. On the faculty side, we&#8217;ll see more information in the IT Service Catalog about what services are available (and how quickly).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">IT Matters: Spring 2013<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/pir\/its\/it-matters\/IT_Matters_vol_2_7.pdf\">Spring 2013 issue of IT Matters<\/a> is out. Highlights for faculty members:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OIT staff completed upgrades to Brennan 228, 312, 314, 500, 502, and 509 over intersession (yay!). St. Thomas 207, 212, and 311 also got upgrades (yay!).<\/li>\n<li>Google Chrome will be installed on University computers through KBOX (Tim has been waiting a long time for this!). There will be an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/pir\/its\/it-forums\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">IT Forum on Google Chrome<\/a> on March 14th.<\/li>\n<li>Remote Desktop Assistance is now here &#8211; using Viewfinity, Technology Support Center staff can share your desktop (with your permission) in order to help you resolve issues over the phone.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scranton.edu\/pir\/its\/techservices\/mobile\/index.shtml\">Mobile Device Support Center<\/a> has been updated with more documentation for Windows mobile devices.<\/li>\n<li>IT Services and the Library set up some self-serve book scanners so that students can scan pages from articles or books to a USB drive or Google Docs or email.<\/li>\n<li>Connie Wisdo has some notes on <a href=\"http:\/\/tsc.scranton.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Footprints<\/a> that show how you can log your own tickets (p. 1, 12).<\/li>\n<li>Phil Erb wrote up an explanation of Active Directory and what it means for users (see p.6).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Just a few updates from recent Planning and Information Resources events and publications &#8211; PIR staff, let me know if I missed anything!
