{"id":335,"date":"2010-09-09T13:19:28","date_gmt":"2010-09-09T17:19:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/?p=335"},"modified":"2010-09-09T13:19:28","modified_gmt":"2010-09-09T17:19:28","slug":"cms-faculty-friend-or-foe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.scranton.edu\/tag\/2010\/09\/09\/cms-faculty-friend-or-foe\/","title":{"rendered":"CMS &#8211; Faculty Friend or Foe?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A recent faculty discussion brought up several questions and concerns about the University&#8217;s new <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Content_management_system#Web_content_management_systems\" target=\"_blank\">content management system<\/a>\u00a0(which was purchased from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hannonhill.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hannon Hill<\/a>):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Do\u00a0faculty use personal websites for teaching, research, and service?<\/li>\n<li>Does\/will the CMS hinder faculty from accomplishing their\u00a0teaching, research, and service?\u00a0 Some faculty members described the CMS as too restrictive and too user-unfriendly for their needs.<\/li>\n<li>Several faculty members were concerned about the increase in workload that would be required to maintain departmental websites.\u00a0 Some expressed resentment that IR imposed a new system on them and now expects them to spend the time to learn how to use\u00a0the CMS\u00a0and maintain their own departmental\u00a0websites.<\/li>\n<li>There was also concern about being forced to conform to PR-restricted designs and formats (feeling &#8220;branded&#8221;).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Where can TAG take this issue from here?
