You know almost all of your students are on Facebook – but can and should it be used in an academic setting? Here’s what’s happening on campus with Facebook…

• The University PR office runs the official University of Scranton Facebook page.  They also have a sort of Facebook umbrella that includes other  University-related pages – e.g., for the Alumni Society, Athletics, Community Outreach, Fresh Food Company, Career Services, Admissions, USPB, etc.  Lori Nidoh is the contact for PR’s social networking projects.
• The Library Facebook page is run primarily by Kristen Yarmey, but you can also get help from Facebook-savvy librarians Sheli McHugh, George Aulisio, or Donna Mazziotti if you have questions.  Donna is the Library expert on Facebook privacy issues and settings.
• Some academic departments have created Facebook pages – including Biology (run by George Gomez) and Communications.
• The SJLA Honors Program used a Facebook group in 2010-2011 (run by Dan Haggerty).
• Teresa Grettano teaches a course on Rhetoric and Social Media (WRTG284), in collaboration with librarian Donna Mazziotti, that addresses rhetorical situations in social media and networks like Facebook.
