Presentation by Dr. Shuhua Fan

 Dr. Shuhua Fan presented a paper titled “Recruiting Teacher Ko Kunhua for the First Harvard Chinese Language Class: Rationales, Obstacles, and Contract,” at the 31st ACPSS International Conference — “China, Technology, and Global Influence in an Uncertain World,” co-sponsored by the Association for Chinese Professors in Social Sciences (ACPSS) and Temple University, Philadelphia, PA, Oct. 23-25, 2026. The conference paper is based on one section of a chapter of a book project — “Language and Empire: Pioneering Chinese Language Instruction at Nineteenth-Century Harvard” (under contract with Columbia University Press).
