We like to say that English majors can do anything, and it’s good to hear news of Hanarae Dudek (BA, English, 2009) who has gone on to work as a speech pathologist in Northeast Pennsylvania. While that path may seem unusual, it has more consistency than one might imagine. As Hanarae writes,
“I graduated from Bloomsburg University in 2012 with my Masters in Speech-Language Pathology. In 2013, I earned my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC’s) from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA). I am also certified in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment which is most commonly used with patients who have difficulty producing voice due to Parkinson’s Disease. I am currently working at Wesley Village in Pittston as a Speech Therapist. I treat patients with cognitive-linguistic, swallowing, and voice disorders as well as patients who have communication disorders as a result of stroke and brain injury. One of my favorite moments so far is while treating a man with dementia he asked me to help him memorize a few lines from a Longfellow poem. In my spare time, I’ve been practicing yoga and traveling as much as possible.”
