Prof. Denison Talks on Millenials and Their Rejection of Feminist Label at CCCC Conference

Professor Emily Denison, part-time instructor of first-year writing, presented “Hashtag Feminism: Millennial Feminism and Social Media” at the 2015 Conference on College Composition and Communication Convention in Tampa, Florida, over Spring Break. Professor Denison explored the ways members of the Millennial generation express their feminism on social media, rhetorically analyzing how, when, and why Millennials choose to embrace or reject feminism as a label for their beliefs. Denison is interested in the tense relationship many Millennials have with the word, “feminism” — many rejecting the label while simultaneously expressing core feminist ideals.
