You may know that April is National Poetry Month, but did you know that Thursday April 10 is “Poem in Your Pocket” Day? The Academy of American Poets encourages poetry lovers to celebrate by selecting a poem and sharing it with others throughout the day at schools, bookstores, libraries, parks, workplaces, or on social media using the hashtag #PocketPoem. This poem helps me to remember to stay present in the moment.
Clearing
Do not try to save
the whole world
or do anything grandiose.
Instead, create
a clearing
in the dense forest
of your life
and wait there
patiently
until the song
that is your life
falls into your own cupped hands
and you recognize and greet it.
Only then will you know
how to give yourself
to this world
so worthy of rescue.
