New this Fall – Off Site Storage for Books

Last fall the Library Advisory Committee began working with the Library Faculty to devise a plan to alleviate overcrowding in our library stacks and to make room for new acquisitions. In Spring 2016 the library negotiated an agreement for off-site storage with Iron Mountain, one of the industry’s leaders in storage and information management services. Over the summer 10,172 books published before 1950 which had not circulated in 12 years or more were sent to off-site storage. When viewed in the online library catalog, books included in the project display with the location “Off Site Storage”, and can be requested by clicking the “Place a Hold” button. Requested books will be delivered back to the library in one business day, and requestors will get an email when the book is ready for pick-up at the Circulation Desk. Books recalled from storage will not be sent back off site, but will be re-shelved in the library stacks after use. Please contact the library you have any questions about this new service.

Library Printing Subsidy

Please be advised that the subsidy for printing supplied by the library is not applied to Royal Cards until Monday morning 8/22. If you need to print before Monday you can add money to your card at the VTN station in the library, or you can use a scanner and email documents to yourself for easy printing on Monday. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Bike Scranton is Back!

Bike Scranton is a cooperative program between the University of Scranton Office of Sustainability, and the Lackawanna Valley Heritage Authority. All University of Scranton students, faculty, and staff as well as Lackawanna County Library System card holders may borrow a bicycle as long as they are at least 18 years of age. Visitors to Scranton over the age of 18 may also borrow bicycles, as long as they can provide a valid photo ID. Each bicycle comes with a lock and an adjustable helmet upon checkout. Bikes may be borrowed whenever the library is open, and all bicycles must be returned before the library closes that same day. For the 2016 season the library has 9 bikes (of different sizes) to lend. There is no charge for borrowing bikes. Please ask at the Weinberg Memorial Library Circulation Desk if you have any questions.

Power Shut Down

Friday March 25, the 24 hour spaces in the library will not be accessible between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. due to a power shut down.

New Sample Chair

We are planning to replace some older chairs in the 4th floor quiet study room, and have a sample chair available for testing. Please leave feedback on the flip chart provided. Thanks!

Special thanks to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley for inviting the University to partner on this new program. Bike Scranton will be back in April of 2016.
