Bike Scranton is Back!

Bike Scranton is a cooperative program between the University of Scranton Office of Sustainability, and the Lackawanna Valley Heritage Authority. All University of Scranton students, faculty, and staff as well as Lackawanna County Library System card holders may borrow a bicycle as long as they are at least 18 years of age. Visitors to Scranton over the age of 18 may also borrow bicycles, as long as they can provide a valid photo ID. Each bicycle comes with a lock and an adjustable helmet upon checkout. Bikes may be borrowed whenever the library is open, and all bicycles must be returned before the library closes that same day. For the 2016 season the library has 9 bikes (of different sizes) to lend. There is no charge for borrowing bikes. Please ask at the Weinberg Memorial Library Circulation Desk if you have any questions.

Power Shut Down

Friday March 25, the 24 hour spaces in the library will not be accessible between the hours of 6 a.m. and 2 p.m. due to a power shut down.

New Sample Chair

We are planning to replace some older chairs in the 4th floor quiet study room, and have a sample chair available for testing. Please leave feedback on the flip chart provided. Thanks!

Bike Scranton Season Wraps Up

The University’s 2015 participation in this bike share program was very successful. In 5 months we loaned bikes 312 times, with 188 of those loans being to undergraduates. Special thanks to the Lackawanna Heritage Valley for inviting the University to partner on this new program. Bike Scranton will be back in April of 2016. Thanks to everyone for your positive response to this green initiative!

Encore Library Catalog Down

If you are looking for items that the Library has in its catalog, the Encore catalog is having technical problems and is not available. The older version of the catalog called the “classic catalog” is available and everything the Library owns may be searched using this version. To get to the classic catalog, click “Advanced Search” or go directly to http://weinberg.scranton.edu/search/

Library Hours Expanded

In response to student feedback the entire second floor of the library is now open 24/7, allowing for more access to carrels, computers, and space for quiet study. This is in addition to 24/7 access to the Reilly Learning Commons and the Pro Deo Room, both on the first floor. After hours, just swipe your Royal Card outside Reilly on the Commons side, or outside Pro Deo on the Monroe side to enter. Welcome new students, and welcome back to those returning!

Library Printing Services Upgraded

Changes were recently made in how print jobs are handled at the library.

When printing from a library computer you no longer need to name and password each job. The new process ties your print job to the RNumber used to log onto the computer. To print, log onto the Pharos UniPrint station using the same RNumber/password you used to access the computer, swipe your Royal Card, and print. You will now see only the jobs you sent from your RNumber, not anyone else’s. PLEASE NOTE: IT IS CRITICAL THAT YOU LOG ON AND OFF LIBRARY COMPUTERS BECAUSE ALL PRINT JOBS ARE TIED TO RNUMBER.

You can now print from mobile devices to the library printers! Simply email your document to uniprint@scranton.edu from your @scranton.edu email address. Once you get a confirmation, go to any library Pharos UniPrint station. Enter your RNumber and email password, swipe your Royal Card, and print. If you need a color copy, you must print from a library computer, not a mobile device.

The Scannx scanners will not send jobs directly to the printer. If you need a paper copy, choose the email option and send the scan to your @scranton.edu email address. Then email your document to uniprint@scranton.edu from any computer or mobile device.

If you installed the Uniprint pop-up client/driver on your personal computer to allow printing, it will no longer work. Now simply email your document to uniprint@scranton.edu from your @scranton.edu email address. Once you get a confirmation, go to any library Pharos UniPrint station. Enter your RNumber and email password, swipe your Royal Card, and print. If you need a color copy, you must print from a library computer, not your own.

We hope that the availability of mobile printing, the elimination of having to name and password each print job separately, and the added security of seeing only your own print jobs will help outweigh the initial inconvenience of learning a new routine.
