LHVA Trail Cleanup Saturday Morning

Members of the Library Green Team will be participating in an LHVA Heritage Trail Cleanup on Saturday, May 3rd at 10am at the Elm St. Trailhead in South Side. If you’re interested in attending, we’ll be meeting on the Linden St. circle at 9:50am or you can meet us at the trailhead. We hope many of you are able to join us!

Environmental Art Show Now Open!

The Environmental Art Show is now open to the public and will be available for viewing during the library’s regular hours. There will be a Reception on Wednesday, April 23rd from 5-7PM. Please join us for light refreshments and the opportunity to meet with the artists and other environmental art enthusiasts. The show will come down on Thursday April 24 by Noon.

Don’t forget to work on your environmentally themed art project while on Spring Break, so you can submit to the library’s Environmental Art Show.

The art show exhibits all types of environmentally themed artwork from University of Scranton Students, Staff, and Faculty.

Environmental Art Show – Call for Art!

The library is currently seeking submissions for the 4th annual Environmental Art Show that will be held from April 14th until 3:30PM on the 24th. There will be a reception held on Wednesday April 23rd—more details to follow in the coming months.

The purpose of the Environmental Art Show is to promote the natural beauty of our environment and the concept of sustainability through artworks of all types, including painting, photography, repurposed goods, sculpture, and more. The show is comprised entirely of University of Scranton student, staff, and faculty submissions, so please consider contributing!

The deadline for submissions is set for Friday, April 11, 2014. All works of art are returned after the exhibit is closed on April 24.

Trail Cleanup on National Public Lands Day

On Sautrday, September 28, the Library Green Team will be participating in National Public Lands Day by helping clean a portion of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail. We’ll be meeting at the Elm St. Trailhead in South Scranton at 10am. Here is more info from the LHVA:

The Lackawanna Heritage Valley National and State Heritage Area (LHVA) will celebrate National Public Lands Day with a clean-up event on the Scranton section of the Lackawanna River Heritage Trail on Saturday, September 28, 2013. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. Volunteers are asked to gather at the Elm Street Trailhead by the South Side Shopping Center in South Scranton. Free parking is available. Map to Trailhead

The clean-up effort will focus on water-treating the new fence and cleaning along the trail as well as removing debris from the Lackawanna River. The public, including trail users, students, and service organization members, are invited to volunteer for the event. LHV will provide free gloves, garbage bags, tools, and water for all volunteers.

National Public Lands Day is the nation’s largest, single-day volunteer event for public lands in the United States. Lackawanna Heritage Valley applauds the National Public Lands Day’s mission to preserve and protect America’s natural heritage by participating in this annual day of caring for public lands. National Public Lands Day in the US began in 1994 with three sites and 700 volunteers. Lackawanna Heritage Valley has participated in the event for the past five years.

Environmental Art Show Now Open

On Earth Day, Monday, April 22 from 5-7PM the 3rd Annual Environmental Art Show will host a reception open to the public.

The Environmental Art Show boasts a new Instagram Exhibit featuring dozens of photographs from student, staff, and faculty photographers, an exhibit documenting a U of S Travel Course that went to the Philippines , as well as numerous, diverse, and excellent artworks from sixteen different campus artists.

Please join us at the Reception Monday night to interact with the artists and appreciate their art. There will be light refreshments served.

The Art Show is open for viewing any time the library Heritage Room is open and will run until Noon on Thursday, April 25.

Environmental Art Show Submission Deadline Extended

The deadline to submit works of art for the Environmental Art Show has been extended to Wednesday April 17.

We are looking for all types of art, including photography, paintings, 3D Objects, repurposed/recycled items, and so on.

Please bring your works of art to the Library’s Reference Desk on the 2nd floor.

The 3rd Annual Environmental Art Show will run from Thursday, April 18 to Thursday, April 25. There will be a reception to meet the artists on Earth Day, Monday, April 22 from 5-7 PM in the Heritage Room of the library.

 2013 Weinberg Memorial Library Book Sale

Friday- Sunday, April 26th – 28th, 2013

 Important Dates

  • Vendor applications are due by Friday, April 12th.
  • Vendors will be notified of acceptance on or before Friday, April 18th.
  • The table fee is due via cash before table set-up each day.
  • The Book Sale will take place:
    • Friday, April 26th (preview sale, members and student night) ~ 4pm-9pm
    • Saturday, April 27th ~ 9am-9pm
    • Sunday, April 28th ~ noon-4pm

Information for Vendors:

  • The Friends of the Library Book Sale will be held in the Library’s Fifth Floor Heritage Room.
  • The table space fee is $5.00 per day, $15.00 for all 3 days.
  • Approval of applications is space permitting, and the Library reserves the right to reject any applicants.
  • The Library is not responsible for the loss or damage to art/craft work.  Vendors are required to properly staff their tables and are responsible for the sale and safety of all merchandise.
