Due to inclement weather, the Library will not be staffed today. Current students and other Royal Card holders can access floors 1 through 3 of the Library by using their card swipe. Individuals without an active Royal Card are not permitted to use the Library today.
There will be no in-person Library services today, but research support may be reached through the Ask a Librarian chat.
Starting at 11am the Uniprint printing system will be offline to all for some system updates to be installed. The process should take an hour and improve functionality.
Just a reminder, the Library is completely closed over the break. There is no swipe access to the building as of now, until 8am, Tuesday Jan.3rd.

The Weinberg Memorial Library is seeking submissions for our annual exhibit of Environmental Art.
The art show will be held in the Charles Kratz Scranton Heritage Room on the 5th floor of the Weinberg Memorial Library from April 14-25, 2023. In addition to the physical exhibit, we will be offering the option to also exhibit virtually. The virtual exhibit will debut online on April 14, 2023.
Submissions are open to all and we encourage submissions by University of Scranton students, staff, faculty, and alumni.
Environmental Art promotes the natural beauty of our environment and the ideal practice of sustainable living through artworks of all types, including painting, photography, repurposed goods, sculpture, video and more.
Welcome to My World is the theme for 2023. We encourage artists to consider developing artwork around this year’s theme. Share your vision of how you see the world, how the state of the environment affects you and others, how you interact with the environment, or how you incorporate sustainable living and care for our common home in your daily life.
The deadline for all submissions is set for Wednesday, March 31st, 2023. All physical works of art can be dropped off at the Library Services Desk on the 1st floor of the Library. All artwork is returned after the art show ends.

The upgrade to the library system has been postponed until after the New Year.
Floors 1 through 5 of the Library will remain open and accessible to students 24 hours today. Please use your Royal Card to swipe into the building. Individuals without an active Royal Card are not allowed to use the Library after 12:30 pm today.
Library services closed at 12:30 p.m. on Thursday (12/15) and will reopen on Friday (12/16) at 10:00 a.m.

The Library is providing complimentary coffee and cookies throughout Finals Week. The coffee and cookies are located on a table in the Reilly Learning Commons. Catering will replenish the table several times a day to keep up with demand!
There is one week left to apply for the Bonnie W. Oldham Library Research Prize! Project submissions for Summer and Fall 2022 are due Monday, December 12, 2022 by 4:00 pm.
The Bonnie W. Oldham Library Research Prize recognizes excellence in research projects that show evidence of significant knowledge in the methods of research and the information gathering process and use of library resources, tools, and services.
New this year: The selection criteria have been updated and refreshed in 2022-2023 to better recognize the diversity of projects on campus. Visit the Selection Criteria and Judging information on the prize website to learn more.
Three prizes of $500.00 each will be awarded to the winning individual student or group in the following categories: Undergraduate Foundational (100-level courses), Undergraduate Upper-level (200- to 400-level courses), and Graduate. If won by a group, the award will be split equally among the group members. All you need to do is write a 500- to 700-word essay describing your research process and how you used the Library in completing the project. Check out our Tips web page for updated advice on how to craft the best 500- to 700-word essay you can about your research.
A statement of faculty support from the instructor who assigned the research project is also required for each submission.
Winners will be announced in May after the deadline for Intersession and Spring projects. Although there are two different dates to submit an application, only one judging will take place.

The Weinberg Memorial Library will award up to four $1,000 Affordable Learning Implementation Grants for Spring/Summer 2023 courses to successful full-time faculty applicants.
Application Deadline: Friday, December 2nd, 2022 (This deadline will NOT be extended)
Affordable Learning aims to reduce the financial burden on students by eliminating expensive for-cost textbooks and course materials with no-cost or low-cost educational resources. OER stands for Open Educational Resources, which includes online textbooks, media, and other materials freely available and can be remixed/reused for educational purposes. For the Affordable Learning Implementation Grants, faculty may opt to use existing OER and open-source software or may compile course materials from open access e-books and journals or appropriately licenses Library materials to replace all, or some, of their for-cost course materials.
