Resources will be unavailable 7/9-7/10

Due to the construction of a new Data Center in Alumni Memorial Hall, substantial modifications to electrical services will require downtime affecting nearly all Information Resources services. The power shutdown will begin at 11 p.m. on Friday, July 9, and end at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 10.

Internet service, e-mail, ResNet and all enterprise services such as Banner will not be available during the power shutdown. Users outside of our campus will not be able to reach online services with the exception of our emergency website. Cisco Voice over IP telephones will be functional during the maintenance window. Please plan accordingly.  Let us know if you have any questions or if we can help you out in any way!

Internet Outage on Campus Early Next Week

Just a quick heads up to our students taking summer classes. Next Monday, June 14th at 11 pm there will be a planned Internet outage on campus while network maintenance occurs. It will last until the following morning, June 15th, at 6 am. From the campus IT Department:

During the service outage, on-campus users will not have access to Internet sites and services and users outside of the campus will be unable to reach University of Scranton sites and services. The University of Scranton maintains an alternate Web site to ensure that external users can continue to get some essential content.

This could affect access to the Library’s databases during that window of time, so please plan accordingly!

System outage, Jan 7-13

The Technology Support Center has announced that, due to an upgrade of the University’s enterprise resource planning system (called BANNER), several University of Scranton systems will be unavailable from 4:30pm on January 7th through 8:30am on January 13th.  These systems include Self Service (UIS), web registration, course schedules, grades, transcripts, account and financial aid information, and the University Course Schedule. (See a full list at http://www.scranton.edu/myscranton.)

The good news is that University email, Angel, and Library resources *will* all be available during that time.  Just go to my.scranton as usual, and when you log in, you’ll get a set of links for email, Angel, and the Library.

If you have trouble, report problems to the Technology Support Center at 941-4357 or techsupport@scranton.edu.

Fall Break Library Resource Access

The University’s Information Resources department has announced an important outage of critical University services over Fall Break.

Due to a needed upgrade, both email (RoyalMail) and my.scranton.edu will not be available from 4:30pm on Friday, October 9 through 8:30 am on Tuesday, October 13.

Angel and Library services (including our catalog and research databases) will be available during the service outage but must be accessed using the URL www.scranton.edu/myScranton.  You can log in using your usual my.scranton username and login.

Other Library services such as Electronic Reserves (ERes), PALCI E-Z Borrow, Ask-a-Librarian, and Interlibrary Loan will be available during the service outage as well and can be accessed from the Library’s homepage.  Please note, however, that Interlibrary Loan requests are received by the Library via email – so to be sure that your ILL request is processed, it would be best to send it before 4:30pm on Friday or after 8:30am next Tuesday.  PALCI E-Z Borrow requests will not be affected by the unavailability of email.

Last but not least, don’t forget that the Library will be closed over Fall Break.  Our hours for the weekend will be:

Friday, October 9: 8:00am – 4:30pm

Saturday, October 10: CLOSED

Sunday, October 11: CLOSED

Monday, October 12: CLOSED

Tuesday, October 13: 8:00am – 11:30pm

Students, be sure to plan ahead if you are thinking of doing research or homework over fall break.  If you have any questions about the availability of Library services this weekend, contact  the Library’s Associate Director, Bonnie Strohl, at strohlb1 (at) scranton (dot) edu or 570-941-4006.  For information about the service outage in general, contact the Technology Support Center.

Update: Tech Support center just announced on Wednesday (10/7/09) that the planned software upgrades will be postponed.
