New Science Books

Our science, math and engineering book collection just got a whole lot bigger!  We’ve added a large eBook collection (over 3000 titles!) to our resources!  You may browse the Springer eBook Collection or simply search the catalog for “Springer eBook Collection.”  You can also search for specific subjects, like “software engineering” and then limit the location the Electronic Access.  This collection will add a lot of depth to our resources that we would not be able to provide in print resources and you will be able to access them from anywhere on campus any time of day.

Feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding this new collection!  Happy researching!

Green Team River Walk

The Central Railroad of New Jersey terminal on Lackawanna Avenue

Saturday morning members of the Weinberg’s Green Team attended a walk and orientation along the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority’s Heritage Trail, starting at the River Walk section off of Olive Street. The weather was perfect–sunny but cool. We learned about the construction of the trail and the history of the city and what previously stood on spots along the river. Our guide, Ashlyn Gomez, director of community engagement at LHVA, showed pictures of specific landmarks and bridges, and also pointed out trees and plants along the walk. One highlight was the view of the train terminal on Lackawanna Ave.

We traveled further along the trail, into South Side, behind the sports complex and shopping center.  The walk provided an interesting perspective on the city, one that we don’t often get to see but should take full advantage of.  It was nice to encounter others running and walking their dogs.  Bikers are also welcome on the trail, but motorized vehicles are not.

A writer from the Scranton Times joined us as well!  You can check out their write up and some pictures from yesterday’s paper.

The Green Team looks forward to utilizing the trail and sharing it with others as well.  I think we are all enthused by the prospects that the day provided.

Game Night!

When you return from Fall Break come join us for a fun game night!  Next Wednesday from 8-11PM we’ll be hosting the game night in the New 24 Hour Room of the Weinberg Memorial Library!  We’ll be playing Rock Band, MarioKart, Wii Fit & more!  We’ll also have traditional board games, puzzles & SNACKS!

You can just stop on by Wednesday the 13th at 8PM!  You can also RSVP on our Facebook Event and share it with your friends. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend! We’ll see you then!

LibX Catalog Search Toolbar

The library now has a catalog search toolbar that you can install in your internet browser.  The toolbar is called LibX it is an open source product that’s super easy to use!  You can visit the University of Scranton’s LibX Edition instruction page to install it.  On the top of the page, there’s a link to install in Firefox or Internet Explorer.  Once it has been installed, you will have a new toolbar in your browser that looks like this:

The toolbar will let you search the catalog by Keyword, Title, Author, Subject, ISBN, and even Call Number!  But LibX doesn’t just let you search from your toolbar.   It will also insert our favicon

(this symbol ) into certain websites, like Amazon, Google and The New York Times.  When you see that symbol, you can click it and it will execute a search into our catalog.  For example, if you’re looking at a book in Amazon, you can click the icon next to the title and it will search our catalog for that particular book!  Also, if you do a search in Google,  you will see the symbol in your results list, if you were to click the icon it would perform the same search but in our catalog.

That’s not all it does, either!  It will also allow you to highlight any text on a website and by right-clicking with your mouse, you can choose to search our catalog for that information.  And finally, it will also hyperlink any ISBN in any website, so you can simply click an ISBN which will search our catalog.  I hope you find this useful in streamlining your research and searching techniques!
